Mexican agates are prized by collectors for their bright colors and interesting patterns. Most of our Mexican agates were found in the northern state of Chihuahua. Mexican agate colors range from bright reds, blues, purples and yellows to pastel grays. Many have well-defined, regular banding, but some, such as Mexican Crazy Lace, have wildly convoluted banding. Often they are named for the ranch or region where they were first found. Some are named for their features, such as Luna agates, which typically feature lots of white moons (lunas) floating in a dark purple sky. Crazy Lace is so named because its' complicated banding sometimes resembles a piece of crumpled lace.
